Important Dates for the 2011-12 School Year

Mark your calendar with dates for the following events for the 2011-12 school year. Some details are tentative, and any changes will be announced on this website and through the HOMESCHOOLS Yahoo group.  Events with an asterisk ‘*’ are open to ALL homeschoolers in the area, not only to members of NWACHEA (although in some cases, there will be a participation fee for non-members).

Aug. 19* – Back to School Party, from 12 – 3 p.m. at the Murphy Park Pavilion near Springdale Library.  Bring a sack lunch/drink, snack to share (if you wish) and a Frisbee or other lawn toy. Moms and students alike can reunite with old friends, and meet some new ones as we eat and play together.

Oct. 8* – Fall Harvest Party at the home of the Royal family. Time and other details to be announced.

Nov. 18 – NWACHEA Community Service Project – preparing care packages for area nursing home residents, and singing and visiting with the residents. Details to be announced.

Dec. 2* – National Geography Bee for grades 5 – 8, beginning at 3 p.m. at Grace Church in Fayetteville. Advance registration is required, and there will be a $5 (per child) entry fee for those who are not members of NWACHEA. Contact Beth Gildner to register a student; deadline is Nov. 18.

Dec. 16* – Ice Skating and Christmas Party at the Jones Center, from 1 – 3 p.m. All area homeschoolers are invited to meet together for a time of fun and fellowship as we celebrate the birth of our Savior. Please plan to bring refreshments to share. Because this event is open to all, there will be a voluntary donation jar to help cover the cost of the facility.

Jan. 6, 2012* – 4th – 8th Grade Spelling Bee, beginning at 2 p.m. at Grace Church in Fayetteville. Advance registration is required, and there will be a $5 (per child) entry fee for those who are not members of NWACHEA. Contact Sheri Hampton to register a student; deadline is Dec. 23rd.

Jan. 13 – Fayetteville NWACHEA Co-op Planning Meeting, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Grace Church in Fayetteville. We will be planning classes for our spring semester. Those who would like to participate in co-op are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting.

Jan. 13* – K – 3rd Grade Spelling Bee, beginning at 2 p.m. at Grace Church in Fayetteville. Advance registration is required, and there will be a $5 (per child) entry fee for those who are not members of NWACHEA. Contact Marni Hendrix to register a student; deadline is Dec. 30th.

Feb. 17* – Valentine’s Party, 1 – 3 p.m. at the Jones Center. All homeschoolers are invited to meet together for an afternoon of fun and fellowship. Please bring valentine cards if your child would like to exchange them, as well as refreshments to share with others. Because this event is open to all, there will be a voluntary donation jar to help cover the cost of the facility.

Mar. 30* – Science and Education Fair, 1 p.m. at the Jones Center. Exhibits will be judged and there will be prizes awarded at each level. Advance registration is required, and there will be a $5 (per child) entry fee for those who are not members of NWACHEA. Watch for registration deadline, to be announced at a later date.

May 17 – NWACHEA Year-End Talent Program / Kindergarten and 6th Grade Graduation. This is an opportunity for students to showcase their talent through voice, instrumental, dance, or other performances. We will also be honoring students who are graduating from Kindergarten and 6th grade. Students who will participate in the graduation ceremonies must register in advance.
