Proposed Changes to NWACHEA’s Constitution and By-Laws

Attention, NWACHEA members and those who are interested in membership:  The leadership of NWACHEA is proposing several changes to our group’s Constitution and By-Laws. We believe these will strengthen the group, and allow us to share responsibility and planning more equally.

Please take a moment to review the Proposed Constitution and By-Laws.

You may wish to compare them with the current versions:  Constitution    By-Laws

As required by NWACHEA’s existing Constitution and By-Laws, proposed changes will be posted for 30 days, during which time we invite comments and questions from members. At the end of the 30 day period, the leaders (steering committee members of all branches of NWACHEA) will evaluate the feedback, and vote to reject or adopt the new Constitution and By-Laws.

We welcome any comments, suggestions or questions from current members, or those who are considering membership. ETC NWA Home Education Family Day & Expo

ETC NWA is holding a Home Education Family Day and EXPO on August 4th, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, at First Baptist Church of Rogers, Olive Street Campus.

From the ETC website:

The EXPO will bring homeschooling families together for Parent/Educator workshops, student classes, loads of information about homeschooling in the Northwest Arkansas area, connections with other homeschoolers and homeschool support groups, opportunities for door prizes related to education, plus food, fellowship and fun. We expect a great turn-out!

Admission for the entire family is only $10, $5 for ETC members! Attendees must register at the door.

Educator Workshops will occur at the top of each hour: 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, and 2:00 PM. There is no cost to attend a workshop. Check back soon for the Workshop schedule.

Student Workshops and activities will be going on throughout the day.

Used Book and Curriculum Sale: Anyone is welcome to sell or shop at the Used Book and Curriculum Sale. Sellers must complete the registration form and purchase approved labels no later than July 27 to allow time for shipping. Late Sellers may purchase labels at the door. Items may be brought to the sale on Friday, August 3rd, 3:00-7:00, or Saturday, August 4th between 8:00 and 9:00 AM.  All unsold items must be picked up no later than 4:30 on Saturday, August 4th, or they will be disposed of at the discretion of the ETC Leadership. ETC will retain 10% of all sales. Checks for the total sales due each seller will be mailed approximately 1-2 weeks after the sale.

Exhibitors and Vendors from around Northwest Arkansas that have an educational or extra curricular product, service or opportunity for Home Educating families will be represented in the Exhibit Hall.

Fayetteville Fall Co-Op Planning Meeting

Fayetteville NWACHEA will hold a planning meeting for fall semester co-op classes on Friday, August 10, from 1-3 p.m. at Grace Church, 2828 N Crossover in Fayetteville.

ALL  FAMILIES  WISHING  TO  PARTICIPATE  IN  CLASSES  SHOULD  ATTEND  THIS  MEETING.

Fall semester classes are held September – December. The co-op meets at Grace Church on Fridays. At our meeting, we will be discussing whether to meet the first 2 Fridays of each month, as we have in the past, or to switch to the first and third Fridays to avoid a possible conflict with Kim Brinson’s high school courses.

You must be a current member of NWACHEA to participate. Membership forms will be available at the planning meeting; the completed form and annual dues must be received before students register for their chosen classes.

Parent volunteers lead all of the classes, and may choose any subject they like. Past classes have included a wide variety of topics – geography, Spanish, science experiments, health and physical education, sewing, art, knitting, cooking, drama, and more. Please come prepared with ideas for classes you are willing to lead this semester. If your class will require supplies, please look at your materials list before the planning meeting and try to have an idea of the fee you will charge.

Every class must have an instructor and at least one assistant. All teachers and assistants commit, in writing, to serve for the full 8 weeks of the semester. They must also sign the NWACHEA Statement of Faith.

Classes are a cooperative effort. Every parent must agree to participate actively in teaching, assisting, nursery care (provided for young children of teachers and assistants only) and/or other duties as needed. Grace Church provides the use of their facility to us at no charge. We appreciate the church’s generosity and have committed to leave the building in good condition every week. All parents will have assigned cleaning duties that must be completed each week after co-op. Students MAY NOT be dropped off for classes; parents, you must accompany your child(ren) and remain at the church unless another adult has agreed to be responsible for them.
