Parents, please understand the deadlines and requirements that we have placed upon this event.  They are there to save the coordinators extra work and confusion at the last minute.  There are many items of paperwork and awards that have to be prepared ahead of time.  Thanks for your understanding!

DATE AND TIME OF 4-8th BEE:  Friday, November 8, 2013, 2:00 pm

LOCATION:  Grace Church, 2828 N. Crossover Rd. in Fayetteville
Grace Church is on the east side of Crossover road, between the stoplights of Old Wire and Township.  It is a brown building that sits back from the road a bit.

This event is free for NWACHEA members. Non-member registration fee is $5 per participating child, which is non-refundable after the sign-up deadline.

DEADLINE TO SIGN UP:  Friday, November 1, by 10:00 pm
Marni must RECEIVE your notification AND PAYMENT by 10:00 pm on Nov. 1.
Please include your child’s name and grade level, and your name and phone number.
If your family has joined NWACHEA for 2013/14, please let Marni know that you are a member, and whether you are registered under the Rogers or Fayetteville group.

The winner of this bee has the opportunity to compete in the Washington county spelling bee.

After registration, Marni will email participants a list of practice words.  If for some reason you don’t receive it, please notify Marni ASAP!

Some other things to practice:

When it is the student’s turn, he should say the word, then spell the word, then say the word again to end his turn. Students don’t HAVE to say the word at the beginning and end, but it is a very helpful signal to the judge to know they are done.

Please help your child(ren) work on THINKING before they speak, rather than thinking aloud, because the judge will not be allowing:
“number. n, n, n, n….u, m, b, e, r. number”
or
“number. n, u, n, I mean m, b, e r. number”
or
“n, u, m….number, n, u, m, b, e, r, number”
or
“n, u, can I start over?”
Once it comes out of the mouth, that’s his/her literal spelling of that word.  This all sounds quite strict, but once the judges let things slide, it becomes unfair very quickly.
