NWACHEA is seeking a coordinator for the K-3rd spelling bee. Below is a message from Marni Hendrix, coordinator of NWACHEA’s annual Scripps spelling bee for older students. NWACHEA is looking for a volunteer to coordinate a K-3rd spelling bee during the 2015/16 school year, recommended (though not required) to be held during the spring semester.

It is not necessary to hold one, but if someone is willing, I know many parents would be grateful for it to occur.

I (Marni) will be coordinating the 4th-8th grade bee. Each year I re-consider which tasks I am able to do or want to do, and no one pressures me to do a job like the spelling bee. It will be the same for anyone who may coordinate a K-3rd bee. A commitment to coordinate it this year is NOT a commitment to coordinate it indefinitely.

I have written a handbook for coordinating the bee and have forms and materials stored; it’s pretty straightforward and very detailed.

It is OK to coordinate the bee while having your own children participate in the bee.

The coordinator also would have their NWACHEA membership fee ($25) waived for the year.
