You are invited to attend a FREE homeschool workshop called “The Nitty Gritty of Homeschooling” on Thursday, August 30, at 7:00 pm at the Circle of Life Hospice Building in Springdale/Tontitown. These workshops are organized and taught by Marni Hendrix and Shelley Kinder, veteran homeschool moms in the NWA area. It is not sponsored by a support group and you do not need to be a member of any homeschool group to attend.

The Nitty Gritty of Homeschooling
Remedying academic problems typically found in public schools, planning lessons, scheduling the school day (or not), occupying toddlers, socializing, avoiding burn-out, repeating and skipping grades, and choosing books at the library.

This is a FREE workshop, but donations are accepted to help cover the cost of handouts.

RSVP’s are not needed.  It’s OK to come late or leave early, as needed.

Childcare is NOT provided. Nursing infants and babes in arms are welcome; however, out of consideration for other parents, please do not bring older children.

COMING IN SEPT/OCT:
Teaching Tips for Grades K-6th
Practical tips for teaching Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science in grades K-6th.  Some other specific topics covered are State standards, Standardized testing, Making your own curriculum, Making your own purchased curriculum more fun and meaningful, How to help left-handers, Math fact memorization, and Dyslexia.

Marni will not be able to schedule a date for this workshop until after the first week of September, so watch for an announcement in mid-Sept.

Near Tontitown, turn right at the Jones Rd. stoplight. There is a Harps on the right at that intersection.

You are invited to a FREE workshop about “Getting Started Homeschooling” at the Circle of Life Hospice Building in Springdale/Tontitown on Thursday, August 2nd, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. This workshop is presented by Marni Hendrix, a mom from NWA who has homeschooled her 8 children.

Getting Started Homeschooling
Information on how to file intent-to-homeschool forms, encouragement and what to expect for the first year, local support groups, legal support organizations, requirements and the law, and more.

If you know someone who is considering homeschooling for the first time, or someone who started last year but has never attended a workshop like this, please invite them.

This is a FREE workshop!

RSVP’s are not needed.  It’s OK to come late or leave early.  Marni expects this workshop to last 1.5 to 2 hours.

There will be no childcare provided. Nursing infants and babes in arms are welcome, but in consideration of others, please do not bring older children who might find it difficult to sit quietly during the workshop.

HOMESCHOOLERS of all ages & their parents:  PLEASE COME JOIN THE FUN & socialize with other homeschool families!

WHERE: Roller City, 1007 Century St., Springdale

WHEN: April 20, 2018 – Friday!

TIME:  1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

$3.00 per skater includes skates or inline skates (please just pick one since they are being so generous with the entry price and also not charging extra for inline skates!)

AGE 4 and under are FREE.

They will have a play list of Christian music and a variety of other music; play request are welcomed.

Snack bar available. Please DON’T bring in drinks or food from outside (whether homemade or purchased elsewhere).

PARENTS: Amy Calhoun has set this up with the skating rink (so they have allotted us a time where it is homeschoolers ONLY). Although Amy often will be present, she is NOT responsible for keeping up with all the children that attend.  This is up to each parent/family. NO ONE is responsible for your child but YOU! Please do not drop off unattended children unless you’ve made specific plans in advance with another parent who is willing to watch your child. Anyone too young to drive him/herself to the rink, is too young to be there without supervision.

RSVPs are not necessary for roller skating. You are welcome to just show up the day of the event.

NWACHEA of Rogers announces that registration is now open for the NWACHEA 2018 Science Fair for students in 3^rd – 12^th grade.

Cost:  There is no fee for NWACHEA members.  Non-members are welcome to participate, but there will be a $5.00 fee per family to help cover costs.

Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation by email. This email will include the Judging Criteria, so parents will know what to expect and how they can guide their student in choosing and completing a science fair exhibit.

NWACHEA of Rogers looks forward to seeing all the wonderful things our homeschooled students come up with, and having a super fun experience sharing it with everyone!

You are invited to attend the workshop Homeschooling Through High School, Part Two, on Monday, April 9, at 7:00 pm at the Circle of Life Hospice building in Springdale/Tontitown.

These free workshops are not affiliated with any homeschool group and you do not have to be a member of NWACHEA to attend. They are given by Marni Hendrix and Shelley Kinder, veteran homeschool moms, for the benefit of those in our area who are interested in home education.

This workshop is specifically for parents with students who might go, or are planning to go, to a 2-or-4 year college. Information covered will include ACT/SAT tests, applying to colleges, financial aid and scholarships, etc.

This workshop will usually last 1–1.5 hours.  If it has been a few years since you’ve attended this, consider coming again to receive new/updated general and scholarship info.  It would be most beneficial to attend before your student enters 11th grade.  Students are welcome to attend, though it is enough for the parent to attend, and Marni’s comments will be directed to parents.

This is a FREE workshop, but donations are accepted to help cover the cost of handouts.  Donations for this workshop are especially appreciated since Marni did not recover her copying costs (.12 per page + tax) from Part One.

Mark your calendar and plan to attend Fayetteville NWACHEA’s spring planning meeting on Friday, January 12th at 1 p.m., at Mt. Comfort Church of Christ in Fayetteville.

At this meeting, we will be outlining our tentative schedule of events for the spring semester. Fayetteville NWACHEA is parent-led and depends entirely on parents volunteering to make activities happen for our families, so if you plan to participate, please come prepared with ideas for field trips and events that you would like to organize for the group over the next few months.

Anyone who’d like to meet and visit with some of the current members prior to the Fayetteville NWACHEA planning meeting on the 25th can join us for an informal meet-and-greet at C.L. Charlie and Willie George Park, 4023 Hylton Rd., Springdale, AR on Friday August 18th from 10-1. This will just be a time of play and fun, that will hopefully give newcomers a chance to see whether they’re interested in attending the planning meeting to find out more about the group’s activities.

This park includes a splash pad, so you may want to bring swimsuits, towels, and/or a change of clothes for your kids. We’ll be at the pavilion starting at 10, but will no doubt be floating around the park as time wears on.
