Effective August 2022, the Steering Committee has made the difficult decision to permanently suspend the Fayetteville branch. At this time, we do not anticipate reorganizing the group in the foreseeable future.

Membership applications are not being processed for the upcoming school year. If you have mailed an application form for 2022-2023, it will be returned to you.

Due to the climate of uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 virus, the NWACHEA steering has made the difficult decision to cancel the annual NWACHEA Used Book Sale, which had tentatively been planned for June 5, 2020.

The logistical challenges of social distancing & crowd control are simply too great to address with the resources available to us at this time. 

We look forward to serving NWA homeschooling families at the 2021 Used Book Sale!

Mark your calendar and plan to attend Fayetteville NWACHEA’s spring semester planning meeting on Friday, January 10 at 1 p.m., at Mt. Comfort Church of Christ in Fayetteville. At this meeting, we will be outlining our tentative schedule of events for the semester.

In light of recent news reports, the leadership of NWACHEA has been in touch with the authorities, and we have been assured that there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that there was anyone other than one student involved, and there was no misconduct that occurred during our classes.

SPECIFIC TO THE ROGERS NWACHEA CO-OP:  The accused individual has not been a part of the group for quite some time, and when she was with us, to our knowledge, she was never alone with any student. We have (and have ALWAYS had) guidelines in place that require at least two parents in a classroom ⁠— this is a protective measure for both students and teachers.

We take the safety of our children very seriously, and if we are ever made aware of any concerns, they will be addressed in an appropriate manner immediately.

There will be no further public comment from any member of NWACHEA leadership.

You are invited to 2 free workshops on Homeschooling Through High School at the Circle of Life Hospice building in Springdale/Tontitown.

Part One will be Monday, April 1st at 7:00 pm.
Part Two will be Monday, April 22nd at 7:00 pm.

These workshops are taught by Marni Hendrix and Shelley Kinder, two veteran homeschool moms who have taken time to organize them for the benefit of other home educators. The workshops are not sponsored by any homeschool group, and you do not need to be a member of any group to attend.

Homeschooling Through High School – Part One
Information on high school courses and credits, grades, diplomas, transcripts, and graduation – either to prepare for applying to colleges OR to make plans for life/career for a student who is not college-bound.  Non-college options like trade schools and beauty schools will also be discussed.  Although your teen is welcome to attend, this workshop is designed to teach parents how to facilitate a high school level education.

It will be most helpful to attend before your student enters 9th grade. It would also be beneficial to someone who is considering homeschooling their high school student for the first time.

Marni has been asked before if this workshop would benefit a parent whose student was just entering 7th grade. This is how she replied:  “Absolutely. I went to my first class like this when my son was in the 8th grade and I wish I would have gone earlier. It is needed to get a big picture of what classes they need to take over those last 4 yrs, what colleges want to see, etc. I think I would have been more diligent about what he completed in 7th and 8th grades, in order to be ready to do certain classes in 9th grade and beyond, if I would have been more prepared. Plus, just getting rid of my ignorance helped me not to dread that season as much.”

This is a two hour workshop.

Homeschooling Through High School – Part Two
This is specifically for parents with students who might go, or are planning to go, to a 2- or 4-year college – ACT/SAT tests, applying to colleges, financial aid and scholarships, etc.

If it has been a few years since you’ve attended this, consider coming again to receive new/updated general and scholarship info. It would be most beneficial to attend before your student enters 11th grade. Students are welcome to attend, though it is enough for the parent to attend, and Marni will be speaking to the parents.

This is a 1 to 1.5 hour workshop.

These are FREE workshops, but donations are accepted to help cover the cost of handouts. Donations for Part One are particularly appreciated since the number of pages and the number of attendees are typically high. (Copies cost Marni 12 cents  per page + tax.)

RSVPs are not needed.  It’s OK to come late or leave early if you must. Childcare is not provided. Nursing infants and babes in arms are welcome, but out of consideration for everyone else attending, please do not bring older children. These are longer workshops; with no place for kids to take a break, play, etc., they will become bored and might be a distraction to others.

Directions:
From I-49, take the Holiday Inn exit in Springdale (exit 72) and go west toward Tontitown. Near Tontitown, turn right (north) at the Jones Rd. stoplight. There is a Harps on the right at that intersection. Circle of Life is the first building on the right after Harps; the address is 901 Jones Rd. It says “Circle of Life” on the building, but at the entrance you may notice a sign that says “Willard and Pat Walker Family Center” and another that says “Earlene Howard Hospice Home.”

Mark your calendars: the NWACHEA Used Book Sale is scheduled for Friday, May 31st at Mt. Comfort Church of Christ, 3249 W. Mount Comfort Rd. in Fayetteville. You DO NOT have to be a member of NWACHEA to participate in the book sale as a buyer or seller. There is no entrance fee to shop. Sale hours will be Friday from 3-7 p.m.

Sellers will drop off books on Thursday, May 30th, from 3-5 p.m. and pick up unsold items after the sale ends on Friday, May 31st.

Volunteers will be able to shop Thursday, May 30th, from 5-7 p.m. before the public sale on Friday.

SELLING BOOKS:
If you wish to sell books, you will need to purchase pre-printed labels that include all of the information required for the sale. Labels are $3 for a set of 50. Your books must be marked with these labels to be placed in the sale. If you wish to purchase labels, please contact Amy Calhoun. Deadline for purchasing labels via mail is Friday, May, 24th – meaning that Amy must have your payment in her mailbox by that date, not simply postmarked. After that point, your only option is purchasing and labeling at the church between 3-5 on May 30th during the drop off times.

If you have NWACHEA labels left over from previous years, you may use them until they’re used up – but please let Amy know that you are planning to sell books this year, even if you don’t need to buy any labels.

Drop off for sale items will be Thursday, May 30th, between 3 and 5 p.m.

After the sale, unsold books are to be picked up at the church between 8 and 9 p.m. on Friday, May31st.

If you want to place books in the sale but are unable to pick up on Friday night, please make arrangements for someone else – a friend, neighbor, someone from your church or homeschool group? – to collect your unsold items. If you are absolutely not able to be at the church between 8-9 p.m. Friday and have exhausted all options trying to find someone else to pick up your items, please check with Amy Calhoun when you register as a seller, to see if it’s possible to arrange a time / location later that weekend.

Any items left after the sale will be donated or disposed of at NWACHEA’s discretion, unless alternate arrangements are made in advance.

FEES:
NWACHEA will retain a percentage of sales as follows:

Volunteers who work “critical” shifts: Thursday 2-4 pm and/or Thursday 3-5 pm and/or Friday 7-9 pm – 5%
Volunteers who work Friday 3-5 pm and/or Friday 5-7 pm – 10%
Non-volunteers – 20%

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We must have enough volunteers to complete tasks in a limited amount of time, in order for the sale to operate on schedule. The 3 times slots listed (above) at the 5% commission rate are critical. If you do not have a preference, please consider volunteering for one – or more – of those. The Friday 7-9 p.m. shift is particularly crucial.

There are a limited number of available slots in each shift. If you wish to volunteer, please sign up with Tina Leonard and include your phone number. A list of all the time slots you are available, in the order of your preference, is helpful.

Volunteer times/tasks are:
* Thursday 2-4 p.m.. (marking chair locations, stacking chairs, setting up tables, sorting/placing books)
* Thursday 3-5 p.m. (setting up tables, sorting/placing books)
Friday 3-5 p.m. (book straightening, working checkout table)
Friday 5-7 p.m. (book straightening, working checkout table)
* Friday 7-9 p.m.. (sorting and stacking unsold books for pickup, breaking down tables, setting up chairs)

* Please do not bring younger children during these times. Volunteers will be moving furniture, carrying boxes, sorting books, and they cannot safely do these things with little ones in the area.

Fayetteville NWACHEA will be holding a spring planning meeting on Friday, January 11th, 2019, from 1-3PM at Arkadia Retrocade in Fayetteville. Kids will play games while moms briefly meet to map to a plan for the spring semester.

Because Fayetteville NWACHEA is entirely parent-led, please bring ideas for field trips or other activities you’d like to coordinate for the group. If you are unable to attend but are planning to organize an event, please send the details to a board member:

You are invited to attend a FREE homeschooling workshop entitled “Teaching Tips for Grades K-6th” on Monday, November 5th at 7:00 pm at the Circle of Life Hospice Building in Springdale/Tontitown.

ALL  HOMESCHOOLERS of all ages & parents
WHERE: Roller City in Springdale
WHEN: Friday, September 21, 2018 – Friday!
TIME:  1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
COST:  $3.00 per skater, which includes skates or inline skates (please just pick one since they are being so generous with the entry price and also not charging extra for inline skates!!!); AGE 4 and under are FREE.

They will have a play list of Christian music and a variety of other music. Music play request are welcomed.

Snack bar available! Please DON’T bring in outside food or drinks. This includes packed lunches, and any food or beverages purchased from other businesses. The rink opens for us exclusively, and we need to support their hospitality by purchasing from the snack bar.  If you or your kids want food or drinks during skating time, please plan to buy them on site.

PARENTS: Amy Calhoun has set this up with Roller City and they have allotted us a time where it is homeschoolers ONLY. While Amy often will be there, it is up to each parent/family to keep track of their own children. NO ONE is responsible for your child but YOU! Unless you have made previous arrangements with another adult who has agreed to watch your child(ren), we ask that you please do not drop off your kids. If your student is too young to drive to the skating rink, he or she is too young to be there unsupervised.

RSVP is not required. You are WELCOME to just show up the day of the event!!!
